What types of trips do you offer?

We offer a variety of trips targeting the most popular species in the Boston area:

Striped Bass Trips – Inshore, light-tackle fishing in Boston Harbor and surrounding waters. Great for all ages and skill levels.
Bluefin Tuna Trips – Offshore big game adventures targeting school-size and giant tuna.
Groundfishing Trips – Bottom fishing for haddock, pollock, and other tasty species on offshore ledges and banks.

What’s included in the charter?

All trips include:

U.S. Coast Guard-licensed captain
All rods, reels, bait, and tackle
Safety gear and fish-finding electronics
Fishing license for all passengers
Cooler with ice for your catch
Fish cleaning available upon request

What should I bring?

We recommend bringing:

Weather-appropriate clothing (layers and rain gear)
Non-slip footwear
Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat
Food and drinks (no glass containers)
A cooler for your cleaned fish (to leave in your vehicle)
Motion sickness prevention if needed (take it before boarding)

Do I need fishing experience?

Not at all! We welcome beginners, families, and seasoned anglers alike. Our crew will walk you through everything, from baiting hooks to landing your fish.

Where do trips depart from?

Most charters depart from Bay Point Marina, Quincy but we also offer downtown Boston pickups for an additional fee. We’ll confirm your departure location when you book.

What’s the best time of year to fish?

Striped Bass: May – October (peak May–September)
Bluefin Tuna: June – October (peak July–October)
Groundfish (Haddock, Pollock, etc.): April – October

How long are trips?

Striped Bass: 4–6 hours
Groundfish: 6–8 hours
Bluefin Tuna: 10–12+ hours (full-day offshore)

How many people can you take?

We can accommodate up to 6 anglers per trip, depending on the vessel. Larger groups can be split between multiple boats or customized upon request.

Can we keep the fish we catch?

Yes, within legal limits. We follow all state and federal fishing regulations. Bluefin tuna retention depends on current NOAA rules and the size of the fish. Some tuna may be catch-and-release only.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Safety is our top priority. If weather conditions are unsafe, we’ll reschedule your trip or offer a full refund. Light rain won’t cancel the trip — just dress appropriately!

What’s your cancellation policy?

We require one week notice for cancellations or changes. Cancellations due to weather are fully refundable or transferable to a new date.

How do I book a trip?

You can call either number at the top of the page to check availability and reserve your date or go to our Contact page and follow the prompts. A deposit is typically required to hold your spot.

Captain Ron and his son and mate Matt were very knowledgeable about the best techniques and all the good spots. They ensured I had a great time and caught a lot of fish. I am excited to cook my fresh catch today and look forward to future trips with Bay State. The Munafos' passion for fishing makes for excellent customer experiences. I’ve had the pleasure of fishing with Captain Ronnie for over ten years, and today was something really special. We set out with both Ronnie and his son, Leo, for an unforgettable day of offshore bottom fishing for cod and haddock. Leaving Quincy at 5:00 AM was so smooth, and having a heated cabin made the ride out to the northern ledges off Gloucester really comfortable. We quickly bagged our limit for cod and then spent the morning targeting haddock at several of their spots. By 1100 we had so much fish that we opted to head back to Quincy.  On the way back, Captain Leo spotted a flock of birds with tuna jumping everywhere! Ronnie quickly switched directions to chase after the action, and Leo had us all set up with casting outfits. My kid and their friend were buzzing with excitement, eager to hook into some of those amazing tunas. Even though they didn’t land one, the joy of the day was contagious! What truly distinguishes Bay State Sportfishing is the genuine care and dedication shown by Ronnie and Leo. Their service exceeds expectations, ensuring that every trip is memorable. We can’t wait to book our days for 2026 and are already looking forward to our next adventure!

The entire experience far exceeded my wildest dreams and was perfection from start to finish. The atmosphere was electric with a sense of adventure I didn't know was possible! Captain Ronnie and first mate Craig are a vast wealth of knowledge, showing us the sights and sounds of the ocean that only come with years of experience. The vessel we boarded was a modern masterpiece, clean and well outfitted for groups of any size and experience level. The equipment we used was top notch and the locations we visited provided more fish than I could've ever hoped for. 4 Cod and over 50 Haddock! The action was non stop from start to finish.  Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. A great day spent with great people. Both captain ronnie and his mate craig were first class the entire day. We took home 50 haddock. 4 cod. Some red fish.  Caught countless more mackerel, dogfish, and others too small to keep. To top it all off we got to see a pod of whales up close and plenty of dolphins.  So much packed in to today, and I can't thank them enough.
